Linda Jane Hayes was born on November 7, 1944, in Wayne, Oklahoma to Clifford and Orpha (Newman) Herell. She passed from this life on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 76

Linda attended Pauls Valley Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1963. Linda married Darrel Ray Hayes in Sherman, Texas on October 15, 1966. Linda immediately became a military wife and most enjoyed the time she and Darrel spent stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Darrel and Linda moved back to Pauls Valley when Darrel discharged from the United States Air Force in 1968.

After returning to Pauls Valley, Linda began classes at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in May 1974. Linda began her teaching career after graduation while she continued her education. She graduated with her Master of Education at ECU in May 1982. Over the course of her teaching career, Linda taught at Wynnewood and Pauls Valley Public Schools. Linda’s teaching career was cut short when she suffered a brain aneurysm in 1990 and had to medically retire. Linda greatly missed teaching as it was truly her calling. Over the next 26 years, Linda would fully engross herself in her hobby: sewing. In late 2016, Alzheimer’s began to take a toll on her, and she could no longer be cared for at home. Since that time, she was in the great care of the Pauls Valley Care Center and Glenhaven Retirement Village in Chickasha, Oklahoma. In her final days, she was cared for by the amazing staff at Glenhaven Retirement Village and LifeSpring Hospice.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel; her parents Clifford and Orpha Herell and her brother Don Herell.

Linda is survived by her two sons and their wives: Kevin and Stephanie Hayes of Chickasha and Cary and Rosa Hayes of Pauls Valley; Grandchildren: Logan, Kaila, Kaleb, Quentin, Olivia, Abbi, Zac, and Conner; and Great Grandchildren: MaKinley and Liam.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Linda will be put to rest in a private burial at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
