Florence Farmer, age 94 of Purcell, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023.
Florence Mae Sewell was born June 24, 1929 in Purcell, the youngest of three children born to Marshall D. Sewell and Emma Emmaline (Bourquin) Farmer. She was raised in Purcell and attended school there. Florence grew up on a farm, where she learned the value of hard work.
She married young to Pete Farmer, and together they raised two daughters, Ann and Connie. Florence worked for Don’s Dairy Mart and T.G.& Y. for a time, before working as a hostess at S & H Green Stamps.
Her greatest joy was being a homemaker, and she cherished her family. She stayed active in her community as a member of the Fairview Extension Club the Purcell Mother’s Club and 4 H. She was an avid supporter of her daughters, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, both in the FFA and 4 H, and believed wholeheartedly in the life lessons taught in theses organizations.
She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking, and looked forward to family trips to Lake Murray and Lake Tenkiller. Above all, she was a woman of great faith, and a longtime and faithful member of Union Hill Baptist Church. Florence enjoyed life and always chose to see the good in people, and if you asked her what she was doing, she would respond “picking up and putting up”. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a true friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Pete Farmer; her parents, Marshall and Emma Sewell and siblings Francis Sudderth and Charlie D. Sewell.
She is survived by: her daughters, Ann Hester and husband H.D. of Purcell and Connie Sue Wollenberg and husband Everett of Payne; Granddaughters, Amy Lynn and husband Brent of Purcell and Cindy England and husband Trent of Maysville; Great grandchildren, Cooper Lynn and Emma Lynn and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Little’s Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery. www.wilsonlittle.com.
