Richard James Erwin Jr, age 64 of Big Spring, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, Big Spring, TX.
Richard was born March 22, 1957 in Bellflower, CA to Jim and Louise (McCoy) Erwin. Richard graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX. Richard answered the call of service to his country, and joined the United States Marine Corp. This decision was made because of movies of soldiers and especially John Wayne Movies. He took training in different areas. The biggest part of Richards work involved, loading and unloading bombs from airplanes. He loved the military life, and often remarked that the Marines were another family for him. Richard received his honorable medical discharge, and returned to civilian life and encountered the Marine Corp League. This is a non-profit organization that helps veterans on any service. He was a true patriot; proud of his service and proud of his country. Richard loved to go hiking in the mountains and just enjoyed the outdoors. He will be dearly missed!
Richard is survived by: his mother, Louise Farrah of Early, TX; brother, David Erwin and wife Debbie of OKC; special son, Jack Monroe and wife Myra of Seminole, TX; step siblings, John Farrah of TX, Christina Farrah of TX and Diana Farrah of CO; two nieces and one great niece and a host of other family and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the love and special care given by members of the Marine Corp League, especially Frank Donohue, Ben Collins and Dean Bearup.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Little’s Chapel in Purcell. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. The service will be livestreamed on our website, www.wilsonlittle.com, and our Facebook page, Wilson Little.
