Ermal Dawson

Retired Oklahoma school teacher Ermal Dawson, Tecumseh, died Thursday at the age of 91. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Tecumseh with Will Bentley and Bob Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
Memorials may be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

She was born Dec. 13, 1906, in Mt. Pleasant, Ark., to Charley Thomas and Lydia Jane (Suttle) Dawson. She graduated from Temple High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Central State Teacher's College. She earned her master's degree in education from the University of Oklahoma.

She came to Oklahoma in 1918 and had resided in Tecumseh since 1973. She taught school in Temple, Okla., for 28 years and then in Hobbs, N.M., for 18 years. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women; the P.E.O. Chapter W and Tecumseh Sororis Study Club.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Elbert and Virginia Dawson of Purcell; her nieces and nephews, Judy and Don Rousey of Tecumseh, Charles and Lynda Dawson of Purcell, Mary Dawson of Oklahoma City, Howard Dawson of Mobile, Ala.; a great-niece, Mary Branson of Tecumseh; two great-nephews, Brian Rousey of Norman, Clay Dawson of Purcell.
