PURCELL-NEWCASTLE, MCCLAIN CO, OK
(permission granted)

Doug Cox, age 55 of Edmond, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018.

Randall Douglas Cox was born September 25, 1962 in Lawton, OK, the younger of 2 sons born to Dick and Nova Cox. By the time he was 2 years old, the family moved to Edmond.   Doug’s mother, Nova, felt it was important to have access to quality doctors and educational opportunities that were not available at Saddle Mountain. This passion and desire would lead to the beginning of the EARC (The Edmond Association of Retarded Citizens). This center provided immediate care to individuals with more severe developmental or physical disabilities. Through this organization, Doug inspired many programs that were established for handicapped adults. In 1988, the Nova Centre was built where Doug and 19 other young men and women took residency. Doug has lived there the last 31 years. In the words of Doug’s cousin Charles, “Doug was an inspiration to many; a prisoner in a broken body for so much longer than anyone expected. His life has opened so many doors for kids and adults with disabilities that we can never ask why. Imagine his new glorified body as he runs into the arms of Jesus!”

He was preceded in death by:

          His father,                     Dick Cox and

          His grandparents,          George and Mildred Cox.

Doug is survived by:
          His mother,         Nova Cox;

          Niece,                  Hailey Cox of Stillwater;
