Evelyn Chilvers, age 88 of Purcell, passed away Saturday January 18, 2014, at the Purcell Municipal Hospital. Evelyn was born June 10, 1925 in Oshawa, Canada to Arthur George Turner and Dorothy Doris (Butler) Turner. She was raised in Oshawa and attended school there. Evelyn later attended the Mrs. Bateman’s Business School. She married her best friend and only love; a young entrepreneur from her home town named John William Chilvers Jr., on July 5, 1952. Following work, they applied for visas and traveled to the United States in 1958, and made their new home in Miami, Fl. Throughout the years, they moved their family and business throughout the states with stops in Charlotte, NC and later San Antonio, TX. It was here that their only child, a son, Johnny was born. A few years later, they bought into the Oklahoma Alloys Company, and in 1965, settled in Purcell. The very next year, they would change the name to Purcell Alloys. Evelyn was a hard worker and remained active in her community. She spent countless hours volunteering with the Girl Scouts and the FFA. She was a proud member of the Eastern Star, the Beta Sigma Phi, and a woman’s business club. In 1984, the Chilvers branched out and opened a new company, C & C Alloys, with Kenneth Croslin. Johnny & Ken’s son, Jeff continue to own & operate the business today. Evelyn kept books for their business and even worked as a bookkeeper outside of the business. Evelyn was longtime member of the Johnson Road Baptist Church and later frequently attended the First Baptist Church in Purcell. Evelyn liked music, and in particularly singing. Gardening was her favorite hobby however, and she greatly enjoyed tending to her flowers. She was very gifted with her hands, and in her later years, she spent hours crocheting, sewing and knitting. Evelyn cherished her family and looked forward to big get-togethers where she could cook for and entertain her family and good friends. She loved to share stories and never missed an opportunity to tell of her time growing up in Canada. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by: Her husband, John Chilvers Jr; Her parents, Art and Dorothy Turner; Her only sister, Madeline Barnes and 3 brothers, Art Butler, John J. Badgley and Bill Badgley.

She leaves behind: Her son, Johnny Chilvers and wife Pam of Purcell 4 Grandchildren, Stephanie Chilvers, Shawn Chilvers, Katelyn and Jake Combest and A host of other family and friends.
