Dale Carson was born near Paoli, Oklahoma, to Elmer Edgar Carson and Vera Evelyn (Murray) Carson.
He was their only child. Dale was raised on a farm with Murray and Carson's cousins always nearby. He went to Florence Chapel in elementary school, riding his horse, Tony, to school. He graduated from Paoli High School as president of his class. He was a loyal Paoli Pug. He loved to farm, and he was working his own fields at the age of 12.
Dale met his beloved at Falls Creek on the home plate of the softball field. He played catcher, and as she batted, he heckled her. From that moment on, he treated her as a princess and revered her as the most gorgeous woman he’d ever seen. He married Shirley Anne (Paddack) Carson on May 28, 1954. To that union, Dayla Anne Carson Blair and Lora Lynn (Lolly) Carson Taylor were born.
Dale’s strong work ethic was his battle cry throughout his life. When he was 12, he went to Kansas City on the train and, with his pig, won the American Royal Grand Champion. Dale’s career included many sales roles. He was the state manager of Morton Foods and sales manager for Tyler and Simpson, White Swan, and Kimball’s. His sales strategies and his phenomenal drive for perfection advanced him in company ranks quickly. Training of young men and women was his forte’. He began working for Solo cup corporation and became Regional Sales manager over 12 states quickly. He loved his work and the people involved in his lifetime career.
Dale loved skiing, teaching children to ski while commandeering the boat, fishing on Lake Texoma, teaching kids to swim in his pool, and watching everyone have pure fun. His creative nature was evident through pranks and laughter. His passion for creating an environment of fun was always apparent to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all their friends. He adored creating feasts for large groups of church family and family. He was an excellent chef. He loved to make huge seafood dishes and introduce new foods to his guests. Dale wanted to introduce interesting experiences and delicacies to delight those around him. He loved instructing nephews, grandchildren, and other youngsters on the value of a hard day of work. He was grumpy but endearing in his instructions. Over the years, he had a small catering company, rental property and raised show lambs, and a little land. He always had some venture to use as a tool to carry on the work ethic he valued. Dale loved OU football. He began attending home games in 1962 and went with his father, Shirley, and his girls. Dale and Shirley wanted church youth to have a place to fellowship and hang out. They provided a pool table, pool, ponds, basketball goals, and various games for them throughout the years. He was a man of great faith and a 32nd Degree Free Mason.
Dale Carson is preceded in death by his parents.
As he so frequently commented, he wanted to be the first to go because he wanted it to be in age order. God was gracious to the family to do just that.
Shirley Carson, his wife of 67 years, resides now at Sooner Station. Dayla and Steve Blair of Norman and Lolly and Eddie Taylor of Norman are his daughters and their spouses.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include; Kyle Carson Blair and wife Alicia and their three boys, Carson, Kallan, and William, and Toby Ray Blair and wife Sarah and their two children, Landry and Henry.
