Wanda Margaret Lee Bourquin age
82 of Purcell passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2015, at the
Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell, with family by her side.
She was born on December 31, 1932 in Goldsby, Oklahoma. Wanda was one of
eleven children born to James “Gordon” Madden and Celesta “Ruth” (Estes)
Madden. Wanda grew up a country girl learning how to work hard on a dairy
farm. She attended the Washington Schools and graduated with the class of
1952. While in high school she played on the 1951 Championship basketball
team and softball team, receiving merit awards for each of these sports. On
May 10, 1952, she married John Edgar Bourquin of Purcell. Soon after their
marriage, Wanda and John moved to Rolla, Missouri, while John was stationed
at Fort Leonard Wood. Together they raised five children and made their home
northwest of Purcell, where they farmed. Wanda helped with all the animals
and crops that were raised, grew and harvested a very large garden, canning
enough food to fill the root cellar each summer. Wanda also enjoyed sewing,
and always had several garments in various stages of completion for the kids
and John. Her green-thumb passion was always her flowers, with African
Violets being her specialty. Another passion included sports. She attended
as many events as possible and would watch as many as three
televisions….each with a different sporting event. Wanda was a faithful
Christian. For over 40 years she was an active member of the First Baptist
Church in Purcell. She taught Sunday School, helped with the Youth at Falls
Creek and served in various other areas at church. Wanda and John were
active in the fundraising and dedication of the new Purcell Falls Creek
cabin. While her children were in high school, she was involved in their
school activities and was a proud band, 4-H and FFA parent. She was a
wonderful wife, mother and homemaker, but her true joy was her grandkids.
