Norma Jean (Smith) Beck

Norma Jean Beck was born on August 2, 1929, the daughter of Ruel Houston Smith and Grace Belle Wilbanks Smith, at Blanchard, OK. She departed this life on March 23, 2013 in Gassville, AR.

Norma attended the Dibble schools, graduating in 1947. As a young girl she gave her life to Christ and was baptized by Rev. Clay Richey in a farm pond. As an adult, Norma was a member of the Iron Chapel Free Will Baptist Church until a church was started in Purcell at which time she became a charter member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Purcell and maintained that membership until her death. Norma married Fred Beck on December 21, 1957. She and Fred were married for over 51 years until his death in 2009. Fred and Norma bought the service department of Majors TV and Appliance in 1971 in Purcell and then purchased the retail side in 1978 and operated Beck’s Service TV & Appliance until their retirement. Norma enjoyed her family and her church family. She was an avid OU football fan and wouldn’t miss a game on TV.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred; her parents, Houston and Grace Smith; a brother, Donald Smith; a sister, Shirley Stephens; a nephew, Donald Lynn Smith and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Audet. Also 3 brothers-in-law, Kenny Owings, Bob Beck, and Tom Beck; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Beck.

Norma is survived by: 2 sons, Rev. Lynn Beck and wife Debbie of Mountain Home, AR and Gary Beck and wife Jamie of Houston, TX. Two daughters, Jeanne Boyer of Oklahoma City and Susan Teague and husband Ken of Yukon, OK. 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by: 2 brothers-in-law, Bill Stephens of Cromwell, OK and Dan Beck of Wichita, KS; 3 sisters-in-law, Linnie Smith of Purcell, OK, Betty Beck of Wichita, KS, and Gloria Beck of Austin, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services for Norma Jean Beck will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Purcell, OK. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
