Kathryn moved
to Oklahoma when she was six weeks old. She grew up a farm girl
learning how to work hard in the cotton and broomcorn fields.
She attended Dibble schools and graduated with the class of
1943. After high school she worked as a substitute teacher. When
WWII broke out she went to work at Douglas AFB in Midwest City
as a “Rosie the Riveter”. After the war was over, Kathryn went
to beauty school and became a licensed beautician. In 1947,
Kathryn married the love of her life, Will Roy Jordan. They were
married on Jan. 26, 1947 in Purcell and soon moved to Lamesa,
Texas. While living in Texas, they raised four children; Elaine,
Brent, Kent and Janae. After Will Roy retired, they moved back
to the Purcell area in 1988 to be closer to her aging parents.
Kathryn worked most of her life as a homemaker and caregiver to
her family and others.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed
gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, crocheting and quilting. In
her later years she learned to use the computer, sending mails,
playing games and most recently she was teaching herself how to
play the piano. Kathryn was a faithful Christian and member of
the Sunray Baptist Church in Purcell. For many years she taught
Sunday school and led ladies bible studies. She will be
remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great
grandmother. She was a special sister, aunt and a dear friend to
her neighbors.
