James E. Nickels, 79, of Dibble, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at his home. The son of John Robert Nickels and Marguerite Edna (Peltier) Nickels, he was born December 1, 1935, in Cole, Oklahoma. James worked as a selector for Fleming Foods and retired after 22 years of service.
He married Mary Leveda Steelman on April 26, 1958, in Purcell, Oklahoma. James was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 886. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, building things, and grew a big vegetable garden every year. He was very talented musically and enjoyed singing and playing guitar, mandolin, and harmonica.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter, Mallory Horse; and a brother, Earl Nickels.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leveda Nickels of Dibble; two daughters, Patricia Jones and husband, Danny, of Blanchard, and Margie Armstrong and husband, Gary, of Little Axe; two sons, Jimmy Nickels of Dibble and Chris Bennett of Lindsay; five grandchildren, Jason Jones of Blanchard, Ashley Jones of Blanchard, Brad Nickels and Tera of Tecumseh, Melissa Stewart and Zack of New York, and Jolene Bedwell of Oklahoma City; seven great grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Blaine, Brinlee, Elizabeth, Annabelle, and Londyn, and one more on the way; one brother, Charley Nickels and wife, Wanda, of Dibble; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones and friends.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the Dibble Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Dibble Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
