Charley Leroy Nickels, 87, of Dibble, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in Norman. The son of John Robert Nickels and Marguerite Edna (Peltier) Nickels, he was born August 8, 1931, in Lexington.
Charley served as an MP in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Wanda Pearl Henderson on March 10, 1956, in Martha, Oklahoma. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, trapping, and fishing. He enjoyed raising a garden and was an avid reader of western novels. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Earl and James Nickels.
Charley is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Nickels, of Dibble; two sons, Mike Nickels and his wife, Karla, of Newcastle and Joe Nickels of Dibble; one grandson, Erik Nickels of Newcastle and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Leveda Nickels of Dibble; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Joyce Henderson of Washington; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 21, 2019, at the Dibble Free Will Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Dibble Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
