Jerry Leon Wilson Sr Obit
October 16, 1937 - August 18, 2019
Jerry Leon Wilson departed this life at his home in Midwest City, OK on Sunday morning, August 18, 2019 for his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was born to Clarence C and Ethel Bell Wilson on August 16, 1937 in Woodville, OK. He was the youngest of 7 children.
Jerry grew up in Madill, OK. He played on the football team, and a Golden Gloves contender. Jerry graduated from Madill High School in 1955.
When he was 16 he met the love of his life. Her name was Barbara Everett. Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy in the spring of 1956 and went to the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL in order to provide for his future bride. He and Barbara were married on July 3, 1956 at her parent's home on Hoxbar Route, Ardmore, OK.
While Jerry was serving in the US Navy Seebees, their family increased with the addition of their children, Deborah and Jerry Leon. After completing his tour of duty in 1960, the family moved back to the Del City, OK area where Jerry attended Centrl State University while working multiple jobs to support his family. Jerry graduated with a BS in 1966 and they eventually relocated to the Midwest City area.
Jerry always worked to provide for his family. He retired from the Property Tax Division of the State of Oklahoma Revenue Department as an Auditor in 1991. He and Barbara also pursued their dream of becoming brokers and owning their own Real Estate Company. Jerry was still actively involved in real estate at the time of his death. Jerry was active in his local church, served as a member of the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Baptist Oklahoma Disaster Recovery Team and traveled all over the US and Mexico with Barbara in their RV.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Wilson; daughter Deborah Wilson Thornton and her husband, Johnny; son, Jerry Leon Wilson and his wife, Kathy. Six grandchildren; Collin, Garrett, John, Levi, Michael and Michaela. Nine great-grandchildren: Codi, Chloe, Cayden, Flynn, Jesse, John II, Levi Jr, Madyson and Rhea. His sisters Dorthy and Betty, his brother George, sister-in-law Dot and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A celebration of life was held on Thursday, 22 Aug 2019 at the Soldier Creek Baptist Church, Midwest City. Interment was at Byars Cemetery, Byars, OK.
