Funeral services for Alton RB Abshure, 85, of Purcell were held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Wadley's Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Byars Cemetery under the direction of Wadley's Funeral Service.
Mr. Abshure died March 14, 2009 in Purcell.
RB was born June 24, 1923 to H.E and Carmen (Guthrie) Abshure in Antioch, Okla. He was raised and attended school in the Elmore City area. RB loved playing basketball and during his years at Elmore City, his team held the state title. RB left Elmore City, moving to California.
He served in the Marine Corps. On April 3, 1945, after his discharge, RB and Jeanne Grider were married in Oklahoma City, where they made their home.
RB worked hauling brick for years, working his way up to finally owning the Abshure Brick Company. RB also was the owner of Mid-Western Foam. When he retired they made their home on Lake Texoma where they lived for 23 years. RB was an outdoors man, he loved nature. He took up gardening and traveling. His favorite activity was fishing, and especially loved catching bigger fish than his son.
He taught his family many things, but fishing with RB was unforgettable. RB was a man of few words, but the words he spoke had great meaning.
RB was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Abshure.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; children, Alton Abshure and wife, Gayle, of Norman, Sharon Reynolds of Oklahoma City and Mona Deason and husband, Doug, of Oklahoma City; sister, Lurline and husband, Burt, of Lake Texoma; nine grandchildren, Mike, Stacie, Branden, Bryan, Blake, Amanda, Samantha, Courtney and Tony; eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Tiajuana Jeanne Abshure died March 4, 2021 in Purcell at the age of 94 years 4 month 14 days. Gravesite services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Byars Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Jeanne was born October 21, 1926 in Byars Oklahoma to Harry and Gladys (Thorne) Grider. She was raised in Byars until she was in junior high, when the family moved to Oklahoma City, where Jeanne graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1944. On April 3, 1945, she married R.B. Abshure. Jeanne was an amazing cook, and enjoyed canning from the large garden R.B. planted. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and was an excellent seamstress, making most of the clothes her daughters wore in their younger years. Jeanne even made her grandchildren cabbage patch dolls and placed them in her garden. When the grandchildren would come to visit, she would send them out into the cabbage patch to find their dolls. Jeanne loved going to the jubilee with R.B. and listening to the music. After R.B. retired, the couple loved to travel and vacation. Jeanne loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren, and after R.B. became ill, Jeanne became his primary caregiver.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Gladys Grider; her husband of 63 years, R.B. Abshure; her siblings, Gordan Grider, Clayton Grider, Buddy Grider; and her grandson, Mike Albin.
Survivors include her son, David Abshure and wife, Gayle; her daughters, Sharon Reynolds, Mona Deason and husband, Doug; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
