Dorothy Jackson, age 86 of Purcell, Oklahoma entered Heaven’s Gates Friday, October 21, 2016, in her home surrounded by her family. Dorothy “Dot” Jackson was born April 9, 1930, to Booker and Frankie Mae (Smith) Hawthorne 2nd of 13 children. She was born and raised in Purcell and attended school at Booker T. Washington. While in school she enjoyed sports and was an outstanding basketball player. Dorothy married Haskell Jackson in Purcell and to that union 8 children were born. Being raised in a large family prepared Dot for her calling in life. For more than 44 years she worked tirelessly caring for Haskell “Speed” and their children. During this time she also worked as a domestic worker for the Dunham family in Norman Ok. Dorothy enjoyed life, and looked forward to having her family and friends around. She enjoyed watching soap operas, sports, playing bingo, going to the casino, loved tending to her garden and canning. She was a fabulous cook, her home was always full of laughter, an abundance of cooking with love and not to forget those famous individual sweet potato pies she always made for the kids on holidays… everyone was welcomed at Dot’s. She was a longtime member of Bowman Chapel Methodist Church in Purcell, where she served the Lord and the church faithfully. She will be remembered as a Loving wife, mother, GRANDMOTHER, sister, aunt and a true friend. She will DEARLY be missed!!!
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Haskell Jackson, her daughter Barbara Mays, grandsons Roderick Mays and Dewayne Jackson; Siblings: Gladys Lawrence, Sherman Woods, Mary Sanders, Richard Woods JR, Edith Slaughter and Ronald Saunders.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving memory her children: Wilma Jackson, Leatrice Conally, Glenna Peters (Dale), Janice Harris, Rhoda Marshall (Larry), Nell Benedict, Connie Thomas Brown (Darence), Theta Jackson and John Jackson. Sisters: Bernice Beach, Wanda Saunders, Theresa Loggins, Ann Clark, Frankie Taylor and Carolyn Williams. 19 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, 10 Great-Great Grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services to Celebrate Dorothy’s life are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Red Rock Cemetery in the Blue Branch Community near Byars. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell. Send online condolences to the family @wilsonlittle.com.
