Todd Jeffrey Vermillion Obit

Submitted by: Jo Aguirre

Todd Jeffrey Vermillion was born on July 9, 1975, in Norman, Oklahoma, the third and youngest child of Sonny and Anita Vermillion. Todd passed away on April 9, 2023 in his home in Blanchard. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Preacher and Ann Dorsett, T.J. and Merl Vermillion of Elk City.

He attended Blanchard elementary school where he succeeded in recess time and anything competitive. He loved his teachers, even those who often scolded him for maybe not doing his best.

In junior high, he found new challenges since his dad was there every day as his junior high principal. Todd was a frequent visitor in the office. He once had to clean the school buses for a week after they ran their routes as punishment for putting stink stuff in an opposing team’s bus during a home basketball game. The bus manager made the work pretty easy, as he had had to clean some of Blanchard buses that were targeted at away games in the same town.

High school was a new arena for Toddy. He had the advantage of being in ag classes even though he lived about a block from the school. Todd got involved by buying and raising hogs with Slick Jervis and his boys where he won many ribbons and made the sale at the state shows. He was always proud of his agricultural achievements, but nothing compared to playing football and baseball for the Lions.

Todd wasn’t blessed with speed, but with determination and love of teamwork, he did whatever he had to do to help his team. He played center for the Lions football team and catcher for the baseball team and was proud of the Lions’ tradition of playing in the state play-offs in football and baseball. In his room he continued to display his ag trophies, football jersey and baseball memorabilia. He was always extremely proud of being a Blanchard Lion, as he was somewhat famous for running the bases after the game and doing a “Petey” head- first slide at home. He mastered this skill by the age of 5.

Todd continued his love of baseball at Western Junior College and Southwestern State College, where he attended with his brother Jay. Todd finished his education at OSU-OKC where he got a certificate in turf management which led to jobs at golf courses and the OKC Dodgers ground crew. He loved his teammates and friends in college, but nothing compared to his love for his Blanchard friends.

Todd also loved to hunt and fish. One of Todd’s favorite memories was when his American Legion team played in the National American Legion World Series in Oregon. He loved the baseball there, but what he still talked about was getting to fish every day and play baseball. Todd loved to socialize with people, whether it be friends or family. You could always hear Todd coming before you could see him. He lived for the summer time where he could attend the Vermillion family reunion and create a ruckus with all of his cousins.

Todd is survived by his parents, Sonny and Anita Vermillion, his sister Jill Stephens and her husband Mike, his brother Jay, nephew Cade Stephens and fiancé Natalie Coffey, nephew Jace Vermillion, niece Tynlee Vermillion and a big group of family, teammates, and friends.

Todd was an old soul and now he is with his best friends, Oscar Brooks, E. O. Clouse, Doc Foster, Ronnie Eisenhour, and Roley Richey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blanchard Diamond Club. The Service will also be live streamed and you may watch at Watch Live | Blanchard First United Methodist Church (blanchardmc.org)
