Herman Leroy “Son” Sturgell, 89, of Blanchard, died Monday, January 18, 2021, in Oklahoma City. The son of Andrew Herman Sturgell and Jessie Lee Ellen (Nixon) Sturgell, he was born August 21, 1931 in Blanchard.
Herman worked for over forty years for FAA and Tinker. He was a longtime member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Blanchard. In his spare time, he enjoyed raising mules, donkeys, and cattle, going on trail rides, and coon hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Lonnie Sturgell; daughter-in-law, Patty Sturgell; four sisters; and one brother.
Herman is survived by two sons, Donnie Sturgell and his wife, Alpha, of Blanchard and Ronnie Sturgell of Guthrie; six grandchildren, Jason Sturgell, Travis Sturgell and his wife, Courteney, Rhonda Wood and her husband, Jeremy, Robbie Sturgell and his wife, Ashley, Michelle Thiessen and her husband, Justin, and James Sturgell and his wife, Jessy; eleven great grandchildren, Broeden Sturgell, Jaedence Sturgell, Evelynn Sturgell, Nathan Sturgell, Dylan Sturgell, Christian Sturgell, Allison Prewitt, Tyler Prewitt, McKenzie Wood, Alexander Thiessen, and Samantha Thiessen; one sister, Vera Patterson and her husband, Pat, of Oklahoma City; one brother, Thurman Sturgell of Blanchard; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.
Viewing for friends and family will be from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the funeral home. Funeral service will be private. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery.
