John C. Sprague, 77, of Blanchard, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at his home. He was born April 2, 1929, in Alva, Okla. He was the second child of four children born to Clair Eugene Sprague and Mary Elizabeth Hobbs Sprague.

John grew up and graduated from Carrier, Okla. just west of Enid. In 1948 he married Norma Mae Haggard and together they raised three children. Two years later he enlisted in the Army and served two years overseas during the Korean Conflict.

After being honorably discharged in 1952, he began a lifelong career as an electrician. His family lived in Wichita, Kan. for 10 years, where he was a member of the Union Local 271. In 1963 they moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for Electrical Union Local 1141. John left the union in the early 1970s and worked eight years for UNARCO Industries in Oklahoma City. In 1982 he started his own business, “Sprague Electric” and operated it until he retired in 1997. John moved to the Newcastle- Blanchard area in 1965 and in 1975 he married Norma Jean Allred. This union brought two loving families together that brought 32 wonderful years to his life.

Throughout John’s life he has enjoyed flying, he had his private pilot licenses and had owned four different airplanes. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and teaching his children and grandchildren how to water ski. In his later years he and his wife Jean enjoyed traveling.

John attended the Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle and he will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, a special brother, uncle and friend to all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Johnie Sprague in 1982.

He is survived by his wife Jean Sprague, of the home; four children and their spouses, Mary Jane and John McCray of Newcastle, Jim Dale and Ann Sprague of Enid, Terry and Heidi Allred of Torrance, Calif., and Debbie and Jim Johnson of Oklahoma City; one daughter-in-law, Janet Sprague Schultz of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Jim Sprague and wife Verla of Cookson, Okla., and Jack Sprague and wife Pat of Austin, Colo.; one sister, Jeanie Ferguson and husband Raymond of Enid; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce Christian.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Sprague, Robert Sprague, Randy McCray, Mark Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Mark Davis, Duane Sanders, and Chad Brown.
Honorary Bearers are Ron Conner and Carroll Miller.

Burial will be in the Blanchard Cemetery.
