(permission granted)

Lula Martha (Whitener) Mock was born on May 28, 1912 in Newcastle, Oklahoma. She was the fourth child born to Cress P. Whitener and Eddie L. (Oliver) Whitener.

Lula attended school as a child at the Buffalo School District (five and one-half miles southeast of Blanchard). In 1926, she got her Eighth Grade Certificate.  In 1934, she graduated from Dibble High School. In 1935, she received a Temporary Teaching Certificate and taught at the Buffalo School District. She taught grades 1-4 for the next two years. She then went back to college at Central State College in Edmond, OK in 1937 and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree and a Life Teaching Certificate in 1939. After graduating, she then started teaching in Blanchard Schools. She taught mainly 4th grade.

Lula met the love of her life, George Mock, in 1943. They were married on October 2, 1944.  In January of 1961, she left the Blanchard School, after twenty and one-half years.  She and George then moved to North Hollywood, California.  Lula was then hired to teach in the Los Altos Elementary School, Hudson District, La Puenta, California. Lula retired from teaching and moved back to Blanchard, Oklahoma in 1974. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see family and friends.  Lula loved learning about her family genealogy. Lula was a very talented lady and loved to quilt, knit, sew, and paint. Many of her nieces and nephews are privileged to have her handiwork in their homes. She loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own children.  Lula was a longtime member of the Blanchard First Baptist Church.  She was also member of The Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She dearly loved her hometown of Blanchard, Oklahoma.   Her biggest pride was the hundreds of children that she taught throughout her teaching career.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Mock; her parents; two sisters, Ellen Ragsdale-McKinney and Katie Ragsdale; four brothers, Robert, Carl, Gene, and Clarence Paul Whitener; many nieces and nephews and friends.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Billy Ragsdale, Elsie Ruth McKinney Oltmanns, Laura Faye Ragsdale Testerman, Donna Gene Whitener, Gene Kent Whitener, Pat Hart, Larry Whitener, Beverly Cochran, and Don Whitener; many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.
