Elton Leroy Mills

Elton Leroy Mills, 89, of Blanchard, died Dec. 14, 2012 in Norman. The son of Archie Edmund and Sarah Josephine [Cantrell] Mills, he was born June 11, 1923 in Naples.

Elton was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was a waistgunner on B-24 Liberator aircraft and flew twelve missions over France and Germany before he was wounded in action in the European Theater on Feb. 15, 1944. Elton was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the EAME Service Ribbon with one silver service.

Elton married Lavera L. Clark on Aug. 23, 1947 in Oklahoma City.

He was of the Assembly of God faith and served as a deacon for many years. He also served on the Middleberg School board. Elton enjoyed being outdoors, going to church, working with cattle and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Lance Brooks; three brothers, Dormie, Fred, and Alvin "Sonny" Mills; and five sisters, Velma Vinzant, Faye Minor, Lucille Lanter, Gladys Stidham, and Vadys Minson.

He is survived by his wife, Lavera Mills of Blanchard; daughters, Gwineth Yeager and husband James of Ft. Worth, Texas and Radonna McDaniel and husband Kelley of Blanchard; four grandchildren, Donya Johnson and Keith of Washington, Matthew Brooks and Jennifer of Blanchard, Charles McDaniel of Blanchard, and Kelsey McDaniel of Blanchard; four great-grandchildren, Ben, Makenzie, Braydon, and Mason; and other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blanchard with interment to be held in the Blanchard Cemetery.

Lavera L. Mills, 90, of Blanchard, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018, in Chickasha. The daughter of Charlie Clark and Katie Victorine (Barrett) Clark, she was born April 13, 1927 in Naples, Oklahoma.

Lavera worked for many years, alongside her husband, Elton, on their dairy farm. She was Assembly of God in faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and baking. Lavera was a great cook and everyone loved her chocolate pie and sheet cake. Her happiest moments in life were when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elton Mills; a grandson, Lance Brooks; two sisters, Martha Spoon and Florence Lee; and three brothers, Pete Clark, Sherman Clark, and Rondle Clark.

She is survived by two daughters, Gwineth Yeager and her husband, James, of Ft. Worth, Texas and Radonna McDaniel and her husband, Kelley, of Blanchard; four grandchildren, Donya Johnson and her husband, Keith, of Norman, Matt Brooks and his wife, Jennifer, of Blanchard, Charles McDaniel and his wife, Amy, of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Kelsey McDaniel and her fianc??, Hunter Clanton of Blanchard; four great grandchildren, Ben, Makenzie, Braydon, and Mason; a sister-in-law, Gerry Clark of Oklahoma City; and many other loved ones and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 16, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Blanchard. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery.
