Carroll Eugene Miller age 82 of Newcastle, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 2, 2017.
He was born August 16, 1934 in Anadarko, OK. Carroll was the older of two children born to Harold Alonzo Miller and Delores Inez (Pitts) Miller. Carroll grew up in Capitol Hill and attended Capitol Hill Schools. On August 21, 1954 he married the love of his life, Priscilla “Tillie” Thompson. They were married in OKC and remained working and living in OKC until 1966. At that time they moved to Newcastle where they raised their five children. Carroll worked as a self-employed painting contractor for many years. Then in 1971 he bought Wright’s Hardware Store in Newcastle. After purchasing the store he enlarged it and operated the business as “Miller’s Hardware” until fire destroyed the building on April 1985. Carroll later rebuilt on the corner of Main St. and Second St, and presently leases out the building to retailers. He also owned and managed other business properties in Newcastle, drove a Newcastle School Bus for several years and operated a trenching business for many years. As an active citizen of Newcastle, Carroll served as Lions Club President three terms, and was active in organizing the Newcastle City Park. Carroll was a faithful Christian and was an active member of the Newcastle Freewill Baptist Church. After retiring, he and Tillie enjoyed traveling to South Texas in the winter, and spending summers in Colorado. Some of his hobbies were woodworking and carving. He enjoyed making bird houses, toy boxes, carving walking sticks and carving Indian heads. Carroll loved his family and while his children and grandchildren were growing up, he supported their many school activities. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by: Parents, Harold and Delores Miller, Two grandchildren, Max Saunders and Carter Carroll Miller;
He is survived by: His wife, Priscilla “Tillie” Miller of the home; Five children, Phyllis Shaw and husband Craig of Newcastle, Lisa Sweet and husband Jim of Newcastle, Connie Saunders and husband Kyle of Norman, Carla Paz and husband Philip of Newcastle, Christopher Carroll Miller and wife Christy of Newcastle. One sister, Sherry Gallant and husband Gary of Blanchard; 15 grandchildren, Bryan Shaw and wife Stefanie, Brandi Rego and husband Daniel, Adam Darby and wife Julie, Amanda Bridges and husband Luis, Joey Paz, Dallos Paz, Cassi Paz, Presley Miller, Cooper Miller, Kameron Primm and wife Ashley, Alex Saunders and wife LaRee, Ryan Saunders, Riley Saunders and wife Shelby, Miller Saunders and wife Brittney, Christina Prophet and Amber Hoelsher. 16 great grandchildren; two nephews, Todd and Ty Deaton; Also a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Newcastle Freewill Baptist Church in Newcastle.
Interment will be at the Blanchard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday evening at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com
