Funeral service for Naomi Clare Meek, 85, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Grand Assembly of God Church, Chickasha.

Naomi Clara Meek was born September 15, 1920 in Grady County, Naples Community to John and Vera Bayless. Naomi went to be with her Lord and Savior January 17, 2006. Naomi lived within 1 1/2 miles of her birthplace at the time of her death.

Naomi lived her life serving the Lord. It was her desire that all she knew and loved have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Naomi was the 3rd of 8 chldren. She was raised on the farm and worked very hard helping with the farming.

She and Alvis Richard Meek were married February 6, 1937 and spent the next 62 years loving, working and beng as one. To this marriage was born 3 children; Eunice, Bethalene and Clarine. Naomi worked hard beside her husband on their dairy farm and was a full time housewife.

At the age of 51, when her children were grown and moved away from home, she attended Canadian Valley Vo-tech and earned her certification as Nurse Aide. Upon completing her schooling, she immediately went to work for Grady Memorial Hospital on the obstetrics, labor and delivery unit and retired after 19 years of service. It was always her dream to be a Registered Nurse and even though she didn't fulfill that dream, she accomplished more than she ever expected through her Nurses Aide work. She loved this job beyond what any words could express, truly loving every minute of it.

Through continuing education hours, she was able to work the newborn nursery and neonatal unit as well. Even after her retirement she had many memories of those 19 years.

She made many friends, still coming to meet her and tell of the great nurse she was to them.

Naomi worked very hard her whole life and loved it, but the true love of her career was nursing. She loved to work, she felt that idle hands were unacceptable.

She so enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Nothing was more rewarding to her than planting small seeds into the soil and watching them grow and produce their fruits.

Naomi loved chldren and babies. She so much enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They made her happy and made her feel complete.

Naomi was a very strong woman and compassionate about everything she did. She gave 100% in everything she did, her work, her family responsibilities and her commitment to the Lord. Her faith was very strong. She gave her heart to the Lord as a young girl and joined her membership to the Hawkins Freewill Baptist Church at 17 years of age, never wavering from that faith and being a firm prayer warrior all the years of her life.

When she and her husband became one for the Lord, she attended the Tabler Assembly of God Church with him and raised her children there. As she became more debilitated and her health began to decline in the winter years of her life, getting to attend church was more difficult again her faith never waivered. She enjoyed watching Adrian Rogers on TV and when she was able to attend church, with her children, either at Grand Assemnly of God in Chickasha or at Hawkins Freewill Baptist Church of Alex. Always studying her Sunday School lessons faithfully every week even though she couldn't always attend the services. She had Sunday School books from each church and would study and research the scripture every week. Every night in her bed she woud spend hours in prayer for her lost loved ones and friends.

Her hobbies consisted of vegetable gardening and flower gardening. She was very meticulous about her gardens being very pleased of her labor. She always said, God's work showed its beautiy in seeing new life unfold in the harvest of the earth and the birth of a baby.

She was preceded in death by: her husband: Alvis Meek; parents: John and Vera Bayless; three sisters: Thelma Lewis, Maurice Hall and Corene Morris; three nephews.

Naomi is survived by: her children: Eunice and Bruce Lee, Bethalene and Merwin Turner, Clarine and Rodger Thompson all of Alex; 12 grandchildren: Dana and Ricky Reed, Brenda and Greg Hall, Marla and Randall Rogers, Nichole and Roger Funk, Bridget Stephens, Brent and Derrelyn Shurbet, Bryan Shurbet, Brandolyn and Jesse Glass, Radonna and Ron Akins, Raymond Thompson, Joshua and Whitney Thompson and Brian Lee; 20 great grandchildren: two sisters: Lavern and Tots Rodgers of Alex; Eulalah Blanchard of Paris, Texas; two brothers: Ross and Imogene Bayless of Chickasha; William "Bud" and Betty Bayless of Oceanside, California; numerous nieces and nephews.
