He was employed at the First State Bank of Blanchard for 26 years and was the Executive Officer when he retired. At that time, he was also co-owner of Gilmore-Agee Insurance.
When he came to Blanchard after the war, He and Emory Agee started Gilmore- Agee Hardware where he sold the first television in Blanchard. Bob was active in civic affairs, serving in various offices for the City of Blanchard and the Lions Club. He was a 65 year member of the American Legion Post 261 and was member of the Army Reserve Officer’s Association.
Bob served in active duty in the U.S. Army during WWII and continued his service in the Army Reserve when he retired as a Major. He graduated high school from Waggoner, Oklahoma and attended Northwestern State and the University of Oklahoma.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Roscoe Gilmore, and sister, Elinor Agee.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Louise Gilmore of Blanchard; son, Robert Gilmore, Jr. of Norman; daughter, Joan Hoffman of McAlester; 5 grandchildren, Alisa Wielebnicki and husband Jim of Highland Village, Texas, Andrea Speck and husband Darren of Highland Village, Texas, Kelly Hildebrant and husband Seth of Jenks, Jason Hoffman and wife Nilda of Edmond, Robin Strickland and husband Jason of Edmond; 6 great grandchildren, Alex and Camden Wielebnicki, Lindsay and Sophia Speck, Cameron Hoffman, Noah Strickland, and one on the way; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Blanchard. Interment will be held in the Blanchard Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook available at www.eisenhourfh.com.
