Wilda June (Hawkins) Clayton, 81, of Blanchard, went to be with her precious Savior on January 31, 2017, with her family by her side.

Wilda was born May 3, 1935 in Gotebo, Oklahoma to Letha E. Eskew Hawkins and Rev. A. C. Hawkins. Wilda graduated from Gracemont High School in 1955. She married Irwin L. Clayton on September 2, 1955 in Gracemont, Oklahoma. To their union, three children were born.

Irwin and Wilda moved to Oklahoma City and then moved to Blanchard in 1973 and joined First Baptist Church. Wilda worked at Taft Junior High as a pastry employee. She helped open a preschool at Carey Heights Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where she cooked for the babies. She was also employed at Bell Oil Company and Blanchard Schools. Mainly, she was a loving wife and devoted mother.

Wilda loved to sing. Her beautiful voice was loved by many. She sang for many funerals and weddings throughout the Oklahoma City area. She shared her love for music with her family and they would sing together at many reunions and family gatherings. She loved reading the Word of God and could quote many scriptures and passages. She shared the Gospel boldly with neighbors, doctors, nurses, and any stranger she encountered. She also shared her knowledge of the Bible teaching Sunday School Classes until her health begin to fail. Then, she began to call the shut-ins and prayed with them. Her love for the Lord was her main job in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Elliott L. Clayton; mother-in-law, Bessie Willis Clayton; her brother, Rev. Dwight Hawkins; sister, Joyce Hawkins Daugherty; and daughter-in-law, Linda Clayton.

She is survived by her husband, Irwin L. Clayton of Blanchard; her daughter, Deborah Clayton Airington and husband, David, of El Reno; her son, Robert I. Clayton of Blanchard; her daughter, Beth Ann Clayton Outon and husband, John, of Shawnee; her brother, Jerry Hawkins and wife, Rosie, of Leon; brother-in-law, Jack Daugherty of Muskogee; sister-in-law, Judith Hawkins of Anadarko; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; her lifelong friend, Irene Bradshaw Spencer, of Choctaw; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Blanchard with her nephew, Dwayne Daugherty, and Rev. Mike Sturgell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blanchard First Baptist Church Building Fund.
