Martha Lajean Butler, 89, of Blanchard, died Thursday, June 1, 2023, at her home. The daughter of Vernon Anthony Draper and Bettie (Greenwood) Draper, she was born May 16, 1934, in Spiro, Oklahoma.
Martha earned an Associate Degree in Accounting and worked for many years as an accountant for a concrete pipe manufacturer. She married Earl Dwayne Butler on July 2, 1954. They were married for 56 years until his death in 2010. She then married Billy Joe Kennicutt in 2014 and they were married until his death in 2021. Martha was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Cole, where she served as the hospitality director for many years, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Martha was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved to travel to various destinations. She enjoyed sewing and was known for her Christmas ham, and her homemade jelly that was gifted for many years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Dwayne Butler; her second husband, Bill Kennicutt; two sisters, Lois Dunn and Joann Harris; and one brother, Richard Draper.
Martha is survived by one daughter, Lajean Harrington and husband, Gary, of Texas; one son, Ron Butler and wife, Regina, of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, April Spoon and husband, Sean, Anthony Harrington, Ron Butler, and Ross Butler and wife, Anna; two great grandchildren, Amanda Harrington and Jacob Spoon; one great-great grandson, Braxton Cleveland; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. Earl Dwayne Butler was born February 20, 1931 to Leroy Butler and Marjanna (Ward) Butler in Lexinton, Oklahoma.
Earl graduated high school and attended two years at the University of Oklahoma, and was a residential foundation contractor, and a retired truck driver.
Earl served in the United States Army as a security agent and was awarded several medals. He is a member of the VFW.
Earl's Hobbies was the conversation at the coffee shop and deer hunting.
He has lived in Blanchard since 1979, and served as a Deacon in The First Baptist Church of Cole, the friendliest church in Cole.
Earl passed away on October 12, 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma. Earl will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Edward and Eugene.
He is survived by his wife Martha of the home, one son Ronald Butler and wife Regina of Oklahoma City, and a daughter Lajean and husband Gary Harrington of Carrolton, Texas, brothers James C. Butler and wife Joyce of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Jerald L. Butler and wife Nelda of Norman, Oklahoma, Jenelle Butler of Norman, Oklahoma and Leanna Clayton of Columbus, Missouri. Earl has four grandchildren April Spoon and husband Sean, Anthony Harrington, Ron Butler, and Ross Butler, two great grandchildren Amanda Harrington and Jacob Spoon .
Funeral services will be 10am Friday, October 15, 2010, at The First Baptist Church of Cole. Arrangements by Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard.
