Calvin Eugene “Gene” Burns, 83, of Blanchard, died Saturday, February 22, 2020, in Roland, Oklahoma. The son of Calvin Trumer Burns and Anna Belle Burns, he was born June 30, 1936 in Cole, Oklahoma.
He went to work for Oklahoma Natural Gas right out of high school and retired after 37 years of service. Gene married Marion Evelyn Erwin on July 4, 1958, in Blanchard, Oklahoma. In 1959 he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1961. Gene was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Blanchard and served as a Deacon for many years. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing. He collected antiques and owned and operated an antique store with his wife for a number of years. Gene was very good with his hands and spent countless hours woodworking and fixing anything that needed repaired. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marion Burns; and one sister, Wanda Faye Burns.
Gene is survived by his two sons, Eddie Burns and wife, Rosa, of Roland, and Kerry Burns of Cumming, Georgia; five grandchildren, Jennifer Shields and husband, Bart, of Yukon, Jon Burns and wife, Mary, of Blanchard, Bailey Hughey of Roland, Madison Land of Cumming, Georgia, and Chance Burns of Cumming, Georgia; five great grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, Haley, Leah, and Landon; one sister, Cloreta Mattox of Oklahoma City; one brother, Danny Burns and his wife Cindy, of Norman; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Blanchard.
Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
