LaVern Vera (Stokes) Aldridge, 95, of Washington, died Sunday,
April 16, 2017, at her home. The daughter of Jess Whitmore Stokes and Nancy J.
(Bagley) Stokes, she was born June 28, 1921 in Seminole County, Oklahoma.
LaVern grew up in the Whiskey Bottom on the South Canadian River in Pittsburg
County. Other than a short stay in California, LaVern lived her whole life in
Oklahoma around the Blanchard and Hanna area. During World War II, she worked at
the Naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester assembling bombs and ammunition for the
troops. She married Paul Leon Aldridge on September 14, 1945 in San Diego,
California. She was a homemaker and was Protestant in faith. In her spare time,
she enjoyed quilting, gardening, and was a wonderful cook. LaVern’s greatest
enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.
LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Harold Aldridge; and one
brother, Carl Stokes.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Paul Leon Aldridge; two daughters,
Paula Penn and her husband, Richard, of Oklahoma City and Pam Shannon and her
husband, Jack, of Blanchard; two sons, Carl Aldridge and his wife, Judy, of
Broken Arrow and Allen Aldridge of Hanna; daughter-in-law, Donna Aldridge of
Broken Arrow; six grandchildren, Richard Aldridge and his wife, Julie, of Broken
Arrow, Justin Aldridge and his wife, Stephanie, of Owasso, Haley Crawford and
her husband Buster, of Lamar; Aaron Aldridge and his wife, Teri, of Orlando,
Michelle Redmon and her husband, Shane, of Blanchard, and Darren Shannon of
Blanchard; fifteen great grandchildren, Rhett, Cody, Jase, Elizabeth, Kallie,
Makayla, Lake, Brock, Reagan, Rex, Race, Reggie, Rany, Gage, and Avery; one
sister, Eupalee Harmon of Mansfield, Texas; twin brothers, Harmon “Claude”
Stokes and his wife, Madeline, of McAlester and Clyde Stokes of McAlester; and
many other loved ones and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the
Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard.
Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com.
