Laura L "Dee" Fields
May 1, 1934 - June 7, 2024
Laura Lorene "Dee" Fields, a cherished and longtime resident of Spavinaw, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024, at her daughter's home in Pryor. Born on May 1, 1934, to Robert Samuel Thompson and Bessie (Stick) Thompson, Dee led a life filled with love, music, and service.
After graduating from Jay High School, she pursued higher education at Bacone College in Muskogee. Dee married Richard "Cody" Fields on January 7, 1971, in Miami, Oklahoma. Together, they became integral members of the Fields Family Singers, traveling across Oklahoma and beyond to share their gospel music with others.
Dee dedicated herself to caring for others, working as a nurse's aide for area hospitals and home health care providers. She also served as a teacher with the Cherokee Nation Head Start program for over 20 years. Her talents extended to her garden, her fishing excursions, and her kitchen, where she was renowned for her fry bread. She also enjoyed the occasional visit to the casino.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Fields (2020); her son, Mitchell Cagle (2015); her daughters, Kathie Horn (2021) and Deanna Eden (1960); and her siblings, Henry "Bean" Thompson, Robert "Moss" Thompson, Ned Thompson, Edith Jackson, Eunice Hawes, and Venoia Wright.
Dee leaves behind a loving family, including her children: Julie Marney and husband David of Pryor, Anthony Eden of Tahlequah, and Kenneth Fields of Tulsa. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Cagle of Wilder, Idaho; her grandchildren: James, T.J., Lisa, Daniel, Emily, Tori, Anna, Brian, Alexandra, and Ava; her great-grandchildren: Beau Mitchell, Cash, Chazden, Ciara, Eli, Elyse, Emelia, Eralyn, Harlow, Jonah, Josie, Kaydence, Mallory, Olivia, Paula, Reece, and Sophie; and her great-great-grandchildren: Brooks, Cason, and McKinsley. Dee will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Stephens-Key Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Casket bearers will be Brian Eden, Calvin Smith, Chazden Harmon, Dane Trout, Eric Newby, and Jaymz Williams.
A celebration of Dee's life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Stephens-Key Chapel, with David Marney officiating. Interment will follow at Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery.
