Shelby Dan Duncan, 72, longtime area resident, left Bartlesville Thursday for the eternal highway.
Shelby was born the son of Bill and Retha Frances (Henry) Duncan on February 11, 1944, in Miami, OK. The family moved to Sprang then to Dewey when he was six years old. He attended Dewey schools graduating with the Class of 1962. Shelby loved his toys and just before entering the U.S. Army he bought his pride and joy - a 1962 ½ Ford Fairlane sedan. During his military service Shelby served in Paris, France and Germany before being discharged in 1967. Shelby soon married and Michael his son was born. Shelby entered carpentry school and specialized in indoor carpentry and cabinet making. He built cabinets for many different applications including RVs in Pryor. Shelby lived all over NE Oklahoma and NW Arkansas and in 2012 he moved back to Bartlesville to be near his beloved sister Ava.
Shelby's passions in life revolved around his beloved cars and motorcycles. Ava lost count of the numerous motorcycles he owned and enjoyed riding. His family fondly recalls that Shelby was the Burt Reynolds of his era and they dearly loved his genuine smile, talented hands and, most of all, his adventurous heart and spirit.
Shelby is survived by his sister Ava Lucas of Bartlesville; nieces and nephew Shannon Jo Eastman, Milala Dawn Payton and John Erick Payton; and his faithful companion Rascal the Chewennie. Shelby is preceded in death by his parents and his son.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at the Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Shelby's family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
