Steve Garrison
February 16, 1949 - September 22, 2023
Stephen Lawrence Garrison, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and loved community member, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 6 days. The son of Lawrence Alton and Ruby Viola (Faught) Garrison, he was born on February 16, 1949, in Bixby, Oklahoma. Steve led a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication.
Steve's parents moved around a lot when he was growing up. He spent many of his formative years in the Broken Arrow area. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following his education, Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army with two tours in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne.
On January 27, 1973, at Carbondale Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Steve embarked on life's journey with the love of his life, Pamela Kay Nantz. Their union was blessed with three children: Stevie, Jennifer, and Cody. The couple shared over 50 years together.
Steve dedicated himself to providing for his family, working at N-REN in Pryor, as well as Shipmate and Cameron in Tulsa. For over 22 years, he served the United States Postal Service as a dedicated clerk. Rose, Oklahoma has been his home for over 46 years. He was a longtime member of the Rose Community Church. His involvement with Covey Masonic Lodge #460 in Locust Grove and VFW Post #3573 in Locust Grove reflected his commitment to service and his strong belief in the power of friendship and fraternity. As a perpetual member of the VFW, he served as an officer for twelve years and enjoyed helping other Veterans get their benefits. Steve also found joy in supporting and being a devoted Locust Grove Pirate fan, attending numerous activities and coaching youth wrestling and little league baseball over the years.
Beyond his passion for sports and community involvement, Steve had a few favorite pastimes that brought a smile to his face. He loved fishing, playing the guitar, listening to bluegrass music, and reading Louis L'Amour novels. Steve was known for his storytelling, always captivating his audience with his engaging tales. Meeting new people was second nature to him, and he cherished every opportunity to establish genuine connections with others. He was a longtime fan of the OSU Cowboys.
Steve's family meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Whether it was attending his children's and grandchildren's activities, or simply being there as a source of support and guidance, Steve's love and pride knew no bounds. His presence will forever be missed by: his beloved wife, Pam, of the home; his son: Stephen Lloyd Garrison and wife Patricia of Rose, Oklahoma; his daughter: Jennifer Kirk and husband Ken of Salina, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren: Luke Garrison and wife JoElla, Sydney Garrison and Fernando Lopez, Peyton Garrison, Heather Caldwell and husband Anthony, Hannah Logan and Austin Hicks, Sevin Logan and Paige Anderson, Kendra Kirk, Kealie Kirk, Kenneth Kirk; 9 great grandchildren: Gracie, Rayn, Rylan, Kalyn, Elijah, Kylie, Wyatt, Roxanne, Marley, with 3 more on the way; 1 brother: Ray Garrison and wife Brenda of Rose, Oklahoma; 1 sister: Sue Mayes and husband Edward of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 1 brother-in-law: Leonard Smith of Pryor, Oklahoma; 1 sister-in-law: Pat Garrison of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; Close and special friends: Gary Adams of Chelsea, Oklahoma and Mack Landry of Louisiana; He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a multitude of friends, all of whom have been touched by his kindness, warmth, and generosity.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; 2 brothers: Walter Lee Garrison and Dewey Alton Garrison; 2 sisters: Gerene Schmidt and Carolyn Smith; 1 son-in-law: Allan Logan; and 1 son: Cody Alton Garrison.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. James McCuistion lead the service, which included Masonic rites. The Grove Veteran's Ritual Team provided military honors during the final interment ceremony, which took place at Rose Cemetery in Rose, Oklahoma.
