Barbara Ellen Thomason
July 1, 1939 - April 21, 2025
Barbara Ellen (Ross) Thomason, age 85, of Ochelata, OK, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 1, 1939, in Locust Grove, OK, to Yancy Earl "Yank" Ross & Lucy Mae (Coverdell) Ross.
Barbara was raised in the Cave Springs area of Locust Grove where she attended elementary school. She graduated from Locust Grove High School with the Class of 1958. She later pursued business courses, furthering her education. On July 11, 1966, she married the love of her life, Dale Ross Thomason, in Miami, OK. Together, they built a good life & raised two sons, Daron & Brent. Dale preceded her in death on April 6, 1997.
Before her boys were born, Barbara worked for City Service Oil Company in Bartlesville. After becoming a mother, she devoted herself to her home & family. After the boys got older, she worked at Luby's & then later cleaned cabins at Osage Hills State Park.
Barbara had a creative spirit & a knack for crafting. She especially enjoyed sewing doll clothes & designing miniature Christmas villages. She also had a passion for collecting coins & salt & pepper shakers. Barbara was known for her sharp mind & unbeatable card skills - particularly in Gin Rummy, where few could match her. Above all, Barbara was a kind, nurturing soul who always looked out for others. She found her greatest joy in caring for her family, especially her beloved grandsons. She was dearly loved & will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Barbara is survived by: 2 sons: Daron Thomason & wife Terry of Ochelata, OK, & Brent Thomason of Ochelata, OK; 2 grandsons: Jonathan & Brandon Thomason, both of Ochelata, OK; 2 brothers: Jesse Ross & wife Ora Mae of Catoosa, OK & Floyd Ross of Locust Grove, OK; 3 sisters: Donita Evans & husband Randy of Hobbs, NM, Emma Garner of Tahlequah, OK, & Mary Sue Camberos & husband Julio of Fayetteville, NC. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members & a host of dear friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Richard Ross, Jimmie Ross, Wayne "Johnson" Ross, Frankie Ross, & her twin brother Basil Ross; as well as one sister, Thelma Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hogan Cemetery near Locust Grove.
