Betty Kathleen Stewart
July 31, 1949 - April 7, 2025
Betty Kathleen Stewart, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, & friend, passed away peacefully at her home near Locust Grove, OK, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the age of 75 years, 8 months, & 7 days. Born on July 31, 1949, in Ada, OK, Betty was the daughter of Joe William Tom Simpson & Thelma (West) Simpson-Termini. She was raised in the Tulsa & Sapulpa areas and attended Central High School in Tulsa.
On March 24, 1978, in Catoosa, OK, Betty married the love of her life, Charles "Charlie" Richard Stewart. Their wedding was a joyful celebration, complete with a champagne surprise from Charlie's friends. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, & adventure, raising their son Joel & sharing more than 46 wonderful years together before Charlie's passing on October 11, 2024.
Betty worked in mortgage maintenance at Broken Arrow Federal Loan & Savings & later retired from the Bank of Oklahoma in 1995. In 1993, she & Charlie relocated from Tulsa to Locust Grove, where they made their home & continued to embrace their life together.
Being of the Baptist faith as a person with deep compassion & strong convictions, Betty was a proud supporter of several causes, including Gold Star Moms, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, & The Shriners. She also gave her time to volunteer work, serving at soup kitchens & food pantries. While living in Tulsa, she & Charlie participated in the student foreign exchange program, opening their home & hearts to others from around the world.
Betty had a creative spirit & was especially gifted in stained glass art & crafting - Christmas decorations & ceramics were among her favorites. She was also known for her delicious cooking, with her fried catfish & cherry cheesecake fondly remembered by many. She loved exploring National Parks & discovering the vibrant flavors of Louisiana cuisine alongside Charlie. Swimming, fishing, & board games were other favorite pastimes that brought her joy.
Outspoken & intelligent, Betty was never shy about her political views & often wrote to Senators & Congress members to express her thoughts. She had a sharp mind, a big heart, & a great sense of humor. But above all, her greatest joy in life came from her family. She deeply loved her husband, her son, & her grandchildren, & her love for them was boundless. They each loved her in return & will miss her dearly.
Betty is survived by: Her son: Joel E. Stewart & wife Kylee of Chesapeake, VA; Her beloved grandchildren: Faith A. Stewart, Joel E. Stewart II & wife Felicia, & Daxton D. Stewart; Sister: Vicki M. Kerbo & husband Bobby of Kingston, OK; Brother: Danny Simpson & wife Terry of Kingston, OK; Her brother-in-law: Robert D. Bond of Locust Grove, OK; Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, & a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents & her sister, Judy Lloyd.
A funeral service celebrating Betty's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Jason Jackson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Hogan Cemetery near Locust Grove.
