Mary L. Sherwood
February 1, 1924 - October 4, 2024
Mary L. Sherwood, 100-year-old resident of Wagoner, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Cherokee County Nursing Center in Tahlequah. She was born on February 1, 1924, in Tulsa to Amon Otto Burton and Bessie H. (Fredricks) Burton. On June 22, 1941, she married James Edward Sherwood in Tulsa. Mary worked for 46 Star Candy Kitchen, the Jenkins Building as the elevator operator, she retired from Century Geophysical as a receptionist, she worked at Fabricut in Pryor, and lastly as a cook in the Locust Grove Schools Cafeteria and she retired from there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Sherwood, her mother and father, Otto and Bessie Burton, siblings, Cecil Burton, Don Burton, Nita Uto, and Rose Boone, two sons, Ronald Larry Sherwood and Robert Harvey Sherwood, grandchildren Bryan Keith Sherwood and Kristine Sherwood.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Natalie Sherwood and Robert (B.J.) Sherwood, daughter in law, Vicki Sherwood, three great-grandchildren, Erik Stone, Sophia Sherwood, and Kaylee Sherwood, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Casket bearers will be Larry Don Burton, Richard Boone, Robert (B.J.) Sherwood, Erik Stone, Jess Dinsmore, and D. J. Rutherford. Honorary bearers will be Larry Dan Burton, Cecil Burton, Robert Davis, and Tom Stone.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor. Interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove.
