Selbert Lee Taylor
July 14, 1931 - January 25, 2026
Pryor

Selbert Lee Taylor, a lifelong resident of Pryor, Oklahoma, and more recently a resident of Veterans Administration Assisted Living Center, Claremore, Oklahoma, sadly passed away at the facility after a short illness. Selbert was 94. Selbert was born on July 14, 1931, in Pryor, Oklahoma, he is preceded in death by his parents William Thomas and Lottie Ann Taylor, and his wife Velma.

He is survived by his brother Thomas, sister-in-law Carol Taylor, nephew and niece all living in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, metro area and by relatives living in Pryor, Tulsa, San Francisco, California and Anchorage, Alaska, and countless friends.

Selbert served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korea War and received the Purple Heart; he was initially reported as Missing in Action, but later this report was corrected. After returning home from service to his country, he worked for Skelly Oil Company, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, as a lab technician. Selbert was the owner of an Antique store, a pawn shop and hotel in Pryor, for many years. Selbert was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. In 2019 he was honored, along with other Cherokee Warrior's, on an Honor Flight to Washington DC. The old family home in Pryor, which was built prior to World War II, was torn down, and a new home was built by Cherokee Nation Housing in early 2021, as part of the Cherokee Nation housing program for the nation's elders. Before relocating to Veterans Center in Claremore, Selbert donated his home and property to the Cherokee Nation, so that it may benefit others. Selbert will be remembered for his warm smile, friendly nature and always willingness to give a helping hand.

Graveside services will be at Fairview Memorial Cemetery, Pryor, Wednesday, February 4, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Claremore Veterans Center at P.O. Box 988 Claremore, Oklahoma 74018 in his memory.
