Carrie Evelyn Black
January 14, 1936 - February 7, 2025
Carrie Evelyn Black, known as Susie, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Joplin, MO. at the age of 89. She was born on January 14, 1936 in Anderson, Mo. to the late Edgar Smith and Edith (Leuellen) Smith.
Carrie was married to the love of her life January 5, 1958 to Rev. Charles Black where they ministered in churches from Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. They settled in Oklahoma in 1977 at Greenbriar Freewill Baptist Church.
She worked for the state of Oklahoma at Hissom Group Home and Eastern State Hospital until retirement.
She was an avid collector of angels and loved gospel music. Most importantly she loved her family.
Carrie is survived by daughter in law, Cindy Black of Pryor, Ok, 2 granddaughters Heather Wilson and husband Ronnie of Moore, Ok. Becca Anderson and husband Mike of Pryor, Ok. Great grandchildren Brooklyn Mills and husband Ethan of Pryor, Ok. Brady Anderson of Pryor, Ok. Avery Anderson of Pryor, Ok. and Rhett Wilson of Moore, Ok. Carrie is also survived by her two brothers Tom Smith and Leslie Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Black, her two sons Gary Dean Black and Steve Black, her brothers Henry and John Smith, her sisters Mary Smith and Wanda Faye Gideon.
Family is having a private viewing on Monday February 10, 2025.
She will be laid to rest in a private burial on Tuesday February 11, 2025 next to her husband Charles Black in Pryor, Ok.
