Barbara Jean Walker
August 2, 1936 - July 16, 2024

Barbara Jean Williams Walker, Age 87, 11 months and 14 days, of Chouteau, Oklahoma passed from this life on July 16, 2024 at 3:01 p.m. in Silsbee, Texas. Barbara was born in Herpel, Arkansas to Guy Williams and Ruby (McCasland) Williams on August 2, 1936. She moved from Herpel to Chouteau, Oklahoma in January 1938 with her parents and two older sisters. Barbara grew up and attended school in Chouteau, Oklahoma. She and Bobbie Gene Walker were married on May 22, 1953 in Chouteau. They made their home in Chouteau and had four children.

In 1984, at the age of 48, she returned to school to become a nurse and fulfilled a lifelong desire to become an RN. She graduated from the nursing program at Rogers, Summa Cum Laude. Initially she worked as an Oncology nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She then worked at Mayes County Medical Center, Pryor, Oklahoma as a home health/hospice nurse. She then proceeded to retire in 2005. Although, she enjoyed her experiences as a nurse, her greater pleasure came from being a wife, homemaker and mother. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, quilting and reading. Her greatest satisfaction came from her relationship with God.

Barbara is survived by two daughters, Bobbi Jean Orange-Hess and Rick Hess of Chouteau, Oklahoma and Rachel and Kevin Rose of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, cousins and many friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Ruby Williams, her husband, Bobbie Walker, two sons, who tragedy passed away on December 26, 1969, Hiram and Jerry Walker, three sisters, Pauline Dunn, Nadine Williams and Christine Brown, a special niece, Suzanne Dunn and a nephew Guy Brown.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Stephens-Key Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor.

The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chouteau North Cemetery, with Pastor Dean Haley officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.stephens-key.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in the care of Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation care of Pryor.
