Mary Louise Flanders
December 29, 1931 - March 31, 2025
Mary Louise (M. L.) was born December 29, 1931, along the Illinois River close to Tahlequah, OK to Barney McCarty and Peggy (Whitmire) McCarty. She died at the age of 93 in Hillcrest Hospital Tulsa, OK.
Mary was raised on a Cattle Ranch on the Lowrey Prairie and went to Lowrey for her elementary education transferring to Jay for High school.
In 1950 she meet Lee Roy Flanders (a WWII Veteran) through friends and they were married August 22, 1950 in Tahlequah. They lived in the Tahlequah area and Wichita, KS for a brief time before settling in Chouteau where they made their permanent home.
Mary was a wife, mother and homemaker in every sense of the word. She also worked in the Chouteau School Cafeteria for 42 years. She said she worked part-time, full time and part-time again before she finally retired.
She was a very active member of the Chouteau Garden Club and was President of the Club for 10 years. She always said they were a working club and for years she helped plant and water flowers and shrubs at the cemeteries a duty she took very seriously. She was always a good neighbor helping out with taking friends to the doctor, visiting and checking to make sure they were OK. She also took good care of her mother and family. She will be missed by many of her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chouteau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 63 years Lee Roy Flanders, Brother Roe L. Ryan, SR and Sister Leeo Wolfe. Also nephews Mike Wolfe and Roe Ryan, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Lea Porterfield, Niece Reba Trickett and grandnephew Jim Trickett among many others dear friends and family members cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers a donations can be made to the Chouteau Garden Club Cemetery fund.
