Melvina Ann Karklin
January 23, 1932 - July 5, 2025
Melvina Ann Karklin was born on January 23, 1932, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to James and Idella (Boatright) Giles. She was raised in Mayes County where she attended local schools. Upon graduating high school, Melvina continued her education at Northeastern College in Tahlequah, earning a Bachelor's degree. She taught school for several years in Mayes County, and then became a flight attendant for Continental airlines and was based out of Denver. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Herbert. Melvina eventually returned to graduate school at Boise State University and completed a Master's degree. She was employed as a school teacher in Boise, Idaho, for forty years prior to her retirement.
After Melvina's retirement, she stayed active by becoming a volunteer coordinator at Saint Luke's Hospital in Boise. She would later move to Fair Oaks, California, where she lived for about fifteen years. She moved to Pryor, Oklahoma, in 2018. Throughout her life, Melvina enjoyed gardening (especially cultivating roses and iris), and doing needle-point. She also loved dogs.
Melvina departed this life on July 05, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 93.
She is survived by her daughters: Pamela Miller, Sandra (Andrew) Fass, and Donna Nybakken; six grandchildren: Jason, Alexander, Karley, Stanton, Craig, and RayAnn; five great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Giles; and sister, Esther Carter.
Melvina was preceded in death by her parents, James and Idella Giles; and sisters, Helen Ackley and Irene Coblentz.
