Jo "Momma Jo" Aker
August 14, 1934 - April 10, 2026

Jo Etta "Momma Jo" Aker, 91, of Salina, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 14, 1934, in Wetumpka, Oklahoma, to Lowell Edward Blaylock and Iva Lucille (Lee) Blaylock.

Jo was raised in Bristow, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Bristow High School in 1952. She later married Jack Aker, and together they shared many years until his passing.

Jo was a longtime resident of Oklahoma City before moving to Strang and later Salina, where she made her home for the past 20 years. She dedicated many years of service as an office manager for Physicians Inc., working for Dr. Honick in Oklahoma City, from which she retired. Jo also gave over 26 years to Salina Public Schools as a teacher's aide. Through the KIOS BIOS Grandmother Program, she found great joy in helping children learn to read and write. She also served as a substitute at the school, always eager to lend a helping hand.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Salina, Jo dearly loved her Sunday School class and cherished her church family.

Jo had a deep love for life and the outdoors. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and loved traveling, especially trips to the beach. She was a dedicated fan of OU softball and football, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She also enjoyed watching golf and Westerns on television. Jo loved camping, spending time at the lake, and being on the boat. She took great pride in her yard, especially tending to her flowers, and always enjoyed looking her best with her hair done and makeup on.

Known for her wit and strong personality, Jo was opinionated, loving, and at times stubborn, but always in a way that reflected her deep care for those around her. She gave both love and "tough love" when needed and leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, and devotion to her family.

Jo is survived by: 3 daughters: Terrie Phelan and husband Lynn of Salina, Oklahoma, Judy McFadden of Strang, Oklahoma, and Kelsey Panther and spouse Desiree of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 2 sons: Chase Mellowbug and wife Brianna of Strang, Oklahoma, and Jared Mellowbug of Salina, Oklahoma; 4 Grandchildren: Ashley Jeffcoat of Pryor, Oklahoma, Derrick Phelan and wife Jeanie of Adair, Oklahoma, Dustin Phelan of Salina, Oklahoma, and Curtis McFadden and wife Michelle of Langley, Oklahoma; 12 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren.
