Vene D. Boyd
October 13, 1926 - July 17, 2014

Services for Vene Boyd, 87 of Adair, will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Pryor. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Navy will follow at Adair Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.Viewing and book signing will be Monday, July 21, 2014 from 9 AM- 6 PM

Vene D. Boyd was born on October 13, 1926 in Newton, Kansas to Charles Oliver and Mary Elizabeth (Ketchum) Boyd. He grew up and attended school in Newton and later Shawnee, Oklahoma. He joined the United States Navy in 1944, at the age of 18; he served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and the Philippines Liberation Campaign. The ship he served on was in the Bikini Island for the testing of the atomic bomb. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.

Vene returned home and went to work in the oil fields then later John Deere. He and Lela Marie Murphy were married in May of 1949 and this year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He and Marie moved to Adair in 1966 and have lived there ever since.

Vene worked as a welding inspector in quality control for Bectel International where he worked in Libya, Egypt, Tanzania, Scotland, Singapore and Indonesia then later went to work for N-Ren in Pryor where he eventually retired.

Vene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Pryor.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Dolly) of the home; three children Charles Boyd of Adair, Deborah Fuller and husband Daniel of Pryor and Gary Boyd and wife Sandy of Claremore; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; one sister Sue Boyd of Dallas and one brother Cane Boyd of Sapulpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Clifford Boyd.
