Marvelyn Mae Braaten
September 28, 1928 - September 13, 2024

Marvelyn Mae Braaten, 95-year-old resident of Tahlequah, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Tahlequah Northeastern Health System. She was born on September 28, 1928, in Shadehill, South Dakota. She married Richard Williams, and they had four beautiful daughters. Later she moved to Arizona for a time where she met and married Red Lake and together, they started a jewelry business and a wood toy making business. She moved to Oklahoma in 1989; after moving to Oklahoma she married Klinton Braaten, who passed away in 2006.

She loved to crochet and was very skilled at making beautiful sweaters. She also enjoyed working her part-time job at the local Dollar Store. She was a member of the Locust Grove First United Methodist Church, where she also sang in the choir. Marvelyn will be missed by her loving family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Klinton Braaten, a daughter, Sandra Grimes in 2019, grandson, Frank Vario, siblings, Donald, Russell, Florence, Derreld, Arthur and Glenn Merriman, and Lucille Lutz, and stepson, Larry Braaten.

The family includes her children, Patricia Stewart and husband Charles of Hulbert, Barbara Feser of Tucson, Arizona, Jolene Myers of Hulbert, a brother, Roger Merriman and wife Helen of Spearfish, SD, sister, Elizabeth Wacker and husband Dale of Bowman, ND, step children, David Braaten and wife Peggy of Twin Valley, MN, Paul Braaten and wife Sharon of Lee Summit, MO, Donald Braaten and wife Colleen of Lakeville, MN, Kevin Braaten and wife Debra of Dayton, MN, step daughter-in-law, Judy Braaten of Minneapolis, Kansas, grandchildren, Cyndi Barnett, Julie Breedlove, Rick Holcomb, Marty Ward, and Tracey Vario, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and last but not least her loving Chihuahua Dolly.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor.

The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Locust Grove First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Steven Spradling officiating. Interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery South. Online condolences may be made at www.stephens-key.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in care of the Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care of Pryor.
