Lester Leroy "Roy" Hobbs
February 18, 1925 - November 29, 2012
Funeral services for Roy Hobbs, 87, of Adair will be held on Tuesday, Dec 4 at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Adair. Burial will follow at the Hobbs Hill Family Cemetery in Adair. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-8 PM at Key Funeral Home in Pryor. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.
Lester Leroy Hobbs was born on February 18, 1925 in Ketchum to Jasper Newton and Bessie Luretta (Smith) Hobbs. He passed away on November 29, 2012 at his home in Adair. Roy grew up in Delaware and Mayes County; as a kid, he helped his family on their farm. When he was older, he, his dad and brothers helped build the Grand River Dam. Roy married Gertrude Bell Palone on May 24, 1950 in Bentonville, Arkansas. They made their home in Adair and raised their family on the farm where they have lived the last 54 years.
Roy was one of the most hardworking men around, he didn't like sitting at the house, he had to be up doing something. He worked on his farm and always kept a big garden that had lots of watermelons. He and his family had a custom hay baling service and baled hay in Craig and Mayes counties for several years. Roy also worked construction and for the Adair County Barn for 10 years as a grader. He never really retired; he still farmed and kept his garden. He was an honest man and always loved an opportunity to help someone. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude of the home; one daughter Loretta Wall and husband Ray of Pryor, one son Harold Hobbs and wife Marilyn of Adair, one daughter-in-law Karen Hobbs of Wagoner; five grandchildren Justin Hobbs of Pryor, Travis Hobbs of Adair, Brandon Wall of Claremore, Nick Smith of Wichita and Jennifer Harris of Wagoner; twelve great grandchildren and two sisters Velma Bennett of Bluejacket and Alma Lyons of Adair.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Terry Hobbs, 5 brothers Leonard, Loyd, Lawrence, Granville and Grover and 1 sister Elvie Engle.
