David Johnny Scott
December 20, 1946 - August 23, 2026
David Johnny Scott, known to his family and friends as David, was born December 20, 1946, in Park Hill, Oklahoma, to Oscar and Bertha (Jackson) Scott. He passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 3 days. David grew up in Tulsa and attended Clinton Jr. High School. Throughout his life, he made his home in several communities, including Pryor, Tulsa, Claremore, and Hutchinson, Kansas.
David dedicated much of his working life to serving others. He was a retired police officer, having served with both the Locust Grove and Vinita Police Departments. He also spent numerous years working as a truck driver. His years of work reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to provide for those he loved.
David married Joyce (Sullateskee) Scott, and together they shared more than 30 years of marriage. Family was one of the most important parts of David's life. He especially enjoyed family cookouts and spending time with those he loved. He and Joyce also raised their granddaughter, Dawn Sullateskee, from a small child, and their bond was especially meaningful to him.
David enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and simply being outdoors. He was known for being a little ornery at times, but his personality was always accompanied by a big heart. He was a great big brother and someone who loved to visit and share stories. David had an excellent memory and could always tell a tremendous story, often keeping family and friends entertained with memories and tales from throughout his life. David leaves behind a loving family who will cherish the many memories they made with him.
He is survived by: His wife of over 30 years, Joyce, of the home; 2 sons: David Scott and wife Roshon of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Randy Scott of Tulsa, Oklahoma; A granddaughter that he and Joyce raised from a small child: Dawn Sullateskee of Claremore, Oklahoma; 3 sisters: Brenda Scott of Sperry, Oklahoma, Linda Scott Gabriel of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Deborah Scott Huffman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren;
David was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Bertha Scott; a step-daughter, Tammy Cardile; and a sister, Pamela Scott.
Graveside services for David will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2026, at Ballou Cemetery, south of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, with Billy Stockton officiating.
