Mona Jo Cumbie of Russett, OK passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 in Durant, OK at the age of 90 years old. She was born on July 28, 1935 in Brownsville, OK to Arthur Edgar and Annie Laura (Goff) Brown, known as "Aus and Slack".
Mona Jo attended Russett Schools and graduated in 1953. She met her high school sweetheart Jack Edwin Cumbie while attending high school. After high school, she and Jack, were married on June 19, 1954. They spent 54 lovely years together before his passing on October 9, 2008. After getting married, they moved to Sidney, NE for 3 years where their first son Randy was born. They later moved their small family back to Madill, and where their middle son Dennis was born. They then decided to move to Ardmore in 1959 and a few years later, their third son Jackie Don was born. The family all lived in Ardmore until 1984 when they decided to move back to Pa and Granny Cumbie's home place in Russett.
Mona Jo worked as an Administration Assistant for Ardmore Public School for over 20 plus years before retiring. She was a faithful member of the Mannsville Church of Christ. She was known for her sweet and gentle soul and her warm presence.
Mona Jo loved watching OU Softball which her favorite player was Kinzie Hansen, OU Football, gardening, going on walks, and crocheting. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her son Randy Cumbie, grandson Jeremy Cumbie, step granddaughter Lindsey Dyer Jefferson, her parents, sisters Neva Clark and Glynda Herndon, and brothers in law Emit Clark, Ferrell Herndon, and Jackie Pilgrim.
Mona Jo is survived by her sons, Dennis Cumbie and wife Tracy of Ardmore, OK and Jackie Don Cumbie and wife Cindy of McAlester, OK; grandchildren Alyssa Higby of Norman, OK, Kacyn Haney and husband Brett of McAlester, OK, Colton Cumbie and wife Chloe of Boston, MA, Carter Cumbie and wife Rayna of Bartow, FL, Will Cumbie of Ardmore, OK; step grandson Robbie Dyer of Oklahoma City, OK; along with five great grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers Eddie Brown and wife Dawn of Atoka, OK and Tommy Brown and wife Vickie of Durant, OK; her sisters Susan Pilgrim of Ardmore, OK and Nancy Kirk and husband Doug of Lebanon, OK; her sister-in-law Ginger Gregory of Arlington, TX; and her brother-in-law Terry Cumbie and wife Diana of Plano, TX. Mona Jo also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Madill, OK, officiated by Matt Benedict. Pallbearers will be Carter Cumbie, Will Cumbie, Brett Haney, Aiden Higby, Jackie Don Cumbie, and Dennis Cumbie. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service in Madill, OK.
