Mr. Meeks died in a fishing accident at Lake Texoma, near Cartwright.
His body was found late Thursday, February 22, entangled in a fishing
net. His boat capsized when the motor became entangled in the net which
he and a companion were running.
He was born August 26, 1904 at Coalgate and had lived in and around Love
County most of his life. An oil field worker, Mr. Meeks also did
commercial fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mattie Meeks of the home; two
daughters, Mrs. Louise Orr of Sulphur and Mrs. Sue Hyde of Dallas; two
sons, David Meeks of Dallas and Millard Meeks of the home; his mother,
Mrs. Annie Meeks of Marietta; a sister, Mrs. May Willis of Lackley,
Texas; two brothers, L.D. Meeks of Oklahoma City and Webber Meeks of
Sulphur and four grandchildren.
Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of the Goodrich
Funeral Home. Serving as casket bearers were Joe Simpson, Woodrow
Wilson, Melvin Thurman, Gilbert Willis, Charlie Stewart and Billy John
Rhoades.
