Josephine "Shoshie" Taylor, 81, of Durwood, Oklahoma passed away Friday, February 13, 2026, at Inspire Specialty Hospital, Midwest City, Oklahoma. She was born April 9, 1944, in Durwood to the late Joseph Taylor and Nonie Rasha Taylor. Shoshie was raised in Durwood and remained there her entire life, a place she loved and called home. Shoshie worked for many years at Lake Murray Lodge. She was a faithful member of Durwood Baptist Church and was active in the Women's Society until her health began to decline. Josephine fought her illness with grace, dignity, and determination. Those who knew her knew she was a character, stubborn and brave, straight to the point, yet able to charm anyone with her humor, her "craziness," and her unforgettable Choctaw jokes. She loved deeply, spoke honestly, and lived boldly. Shoshie enjoyed listening to country and gospel music, cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners football, and watching Oklahoma City Thunder basketball. She loved her community, her church family, and her people. She will be deeply missed and remembered for her strength, her laughter, and the unmistakable spark that made her Shoshie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Alice Johnson, Otheline Scott, Wanda Columbus, and infant sister Geraldine; her brothers, John Taylor, Edward Taylor, and Cecil Taylor; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Shoshie was a close and devoted friend to her niece Vivian Murray, and cousin Faye Taylor. And also her protector of the house and surrounding area Ginger her dog.
Casket bearers will be Matt Columbus, Travis Scott, Ked Cree, Eric Martinez, Josh Kale, and Jackson Columbus.
Honorary bearers will be Bruce Columbus, Popo Marris, Lane Marris, Jolene Morgan, Doreen Martinez, CHR Tawana Johnson, and the Chickasaw Transportation Stanley Factor, Serena and Randall
