Walter Lee Sisson, 87, longtime Norman resident, passed away peacefully by his wife’s side in his home Saturday, September 21, 2013. He was born on November 28, 1925, in Stockton, California, to Carl Hinckley Sisson and Eva Lynn Haynes Sisson. He and his five brothers lived on a homestead one mile south of Commanche, California, which burned down in April 1925. They rebuilt and lived at the homestead until 1932. Walter was saved at a tent revival at the age of nine. His family moved near Wallace, California, where he attended grade school and high school at Calaveras County.
In his sophomore year, he joined the Navy at age 17 with his parent’s permission. He did boot camp at Farragut, Idaho, and signal school in San Diego. He served on Ulithi Atoll in the western Pacific as a Second Class Signalman until December 25, 1945. He then went to Guam and finally to Siapan to serve on LCI 1031. He was honorably discharged in May 1946.
After the war, Walter located in Canby, California, where his parents lived, and he finished high school. Here he worked in a saw mill until 1947. He moved to Sacramento, California, working as an IBM operator for the State of California Department of Employment from 1948 – 1949. It was here that he met his future wife-to-be Wilma Jean Unruh in 1949, who had come from Enid, Oklahoma, to visit friends. In December of 1949, he relocated to Enid where he and Wilma Jean were married on December 27, 1949. To this union, two children were born, Jack Douglas and Jill Dorene.
He was employed by OG&E until February 1959, when he and his wife purchased a Christian bookstore which they named Sisson’s Christian Bookstore in downtown Enid, selling it in 1977. Walter was, in addition during this time, a traveling sales representative for The Church of God Publishing Company, Warner Press, Anderson, Indiana, from 1971 – 1979. He served as an ordained deacon for First Baptist Church, Enid.
In July 1979, he and his wife moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where they purchased a Kwik Kopy Printing franchise. They operated the business until selling in 2006 and retiring to their country home. During the time they operated the bookstore and the print shop, they attended yearly conventions and took side trips to many places of interest. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Norman, and the Norman Kiwanis Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Carl and Eva Lynn Sisson of Enid, OK; and four brothers, Edward, Charles, Richard and Neil Sisson. Walter is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Sisson of Norman, OK; son and daughter-in-law Jack and Susan Sisson of Clarksville, GA; daughter and son-in-law Jill and Ray Allen of Broken Arrow, OK; ten grandchildren: Jacob Sisson, Ross Faith, Meghan Wotring and her husband Kevin, Hailey McDuffie and her husband Douglas, Phillip, Benjamin and his wife Miyuki, Ethan and his wife, Laura, Miriam, Hannah, and Keenan Sisson; and two great grandchildren, Lorelle and Chyler Wotring.
Graveside services are 2:00 pm Saturday, October 5, 2013 at West New Hope Dale Cemetery, Ringwood, Oklahoma.

Wilma Jean Sisson passed away on December 19, 2017 at the age of 91.
She was born June 27, 1926, on a farm four miles north of Ringwood, Oklahoma. When she was a year and a half old, her parents moved to Bakersfield, California. After living there a year and a half, they moved back to Oklahoma until 1931 when they purchased land in West Texas, four miles south of Felt, Oklahoma. It was here that she started school and finished the first grade, at which time her parents moved back to Oklahoma due to the severe dust storms in West Texas. She attended Enid, Oklahoma, schools, graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1944. She then attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated in 1946. She also attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, until 1948, classified as a junior, then returned to Enid and attended Enid Business College.
In 1949 she moved to Sacramento, California, where she was employed by the State of California Department of Surplus Properties as a stenographer. It was there that she met Walter Sisson, and on December 27, 1949, they were married in Enid, Oklahoma. She was employed by the Social Security Administration for five years until their son, Jack Douglas, was born on September, 30, 1954. On May 9, 1957, they welcomed their daughter, Jill Dorene.
During this time, she kept the books for the Enid Christian Bookstore until February 1957 at which time she and Walt purchased the bookstore from Mr. Peter Bolhr. They operated the bookstore until February 1977 at which time it was sold.
Jean worked for Frye’s Office Systems for a while and traveled with Walt who was a sales representative for Warner Press, the Church of God Publishing House in Anderson, Indiana. Three years after selling their bookstore, they purchased a Kwik Kopy Printing franchise and located it in Norman, Oklahoma, July 1979. The operated the print shop until November 2006 at which time they sold it and retired. During the time they owned the bookstore and the print shop, they traveled to conventions each year and made many side trips seeing the United States.
Wilma Jean was preceded in her death by her husband, Walt, her parents Jonas and Mildred Unruh, her sister, Dorothy Palmer and her brother, Jerroll.
She is survived by her son, Jack, and wife, Susan, her daughter, Jill, and husband, Ray Allen, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held in the spring of 2018 at the West New Hopedale Mennonite Cemetery, four miles north of Ringwood. The service will be conducted by her son Dr. Jack Sisson.
