Janie Ruth (Stiles) Nightingale
September 23, 1935 ~ July 3, 2023 - 87 Years Old

Obituary

Janie Ruth (Stiles) Nightingale, 87, passed away on July 3, 2023 at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid. Janie was born on September 23, 1935 to Orville Stiles and Edith Bennett Stiles, in Fairview. Janie graduated from Cleo Springs High School. She was happily married to Julian Nightingale on June 2, 1956 for 62 years. They made their home on the family farm, five miles east of Cleo Springs, where she lived until her death.

She worked various jobs until she was employed at the Aline-Cleo Elementary School in the cafeteria, preparing homemade lunches for children. She did this for 25 years, but her focus was always on supporting her family and making a home that was welcome. She was also an active member in the Cleo Springs United Methodist Church, seeing a need and filling that need. She was the first to volunteer to help with any task. She rarely told someone 'No' if they asked for help. After retirement she enjoyed traveling, making trips to Japan, London, Virginia and Alaska. She loved fishing with her grandkids and cooking for her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Julia Ann Roquemore and husband, Jerry of Richmond, Virginia; son, Ralph Nightingale and wife, Donna of Cleo Springs; five grandchildren, Katie Slegar and husband, Dan, Crystal Zanca and husband, Nick, Julian Roquemore and wife, Amanda, Lacey Rains and husband, Russ, and Dalton Nightingale and Tricia. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Anna and Jon Slegar, Jocelyn and Devon Zanca, Alexander Segar, Wyatt and Payton Rains and Watson Nightingale.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Julian and an infant son, Paul; parents, Orville and Edith Elle Stiles; siblings, Deloris Francis, Jim Stiles, Sue Barnes, Charlotte Anson, and Peggy Ent.
