Graveside service for Lewis M Wilmott, 97 years old Fairview resident will be Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Roscoe Cemetery. Service is under the direction of Fairview Funeral Home.
Lewis was born west of Fairview on February 10, 1916 to Laymont and Bessa (Cluff) Wilmott and passed away on August 16, 2013 in the Okeene Hospital.
Lewis was the oldest son in his family and worked side by side with his Dad to help provide for their family. On February 14, 1939, he married Leota Gertz in Fairview.
He was a mechanic by trade and also a hobby. Lewis had a shop on north Main, Fairview. When times got hard he moved his family to Colorado and in a couple years moved on to California. He opened his own shop repairing cars, Leota was the bookkeeper and the 4 sons worked in the shop. Each son had a particular job when working on the cars. As California grew and Lewis retired they returned to home town, Fairview. Glad to be back where there was only one stop light instead of a dozen. Leota passed away on April 18, 1994.
Lewis loved to spend time working in his yard and looked forward to planting a garden. The Senior Citizen Center was very important to him. Most mornings he got on his bicycle and went up to play pool with the guys until lunch time. He was considered to be a pretty good pool player. He donated a pool table to the Senior Center. One of his last remarks was “I miss my pool gang”. One morning he was taking some flowers to the Center and had an accident out in front of the Center, he wasn’t hurt, only his pride.
Lewis is survived by son Gary Wilmott and wife Linda of Billings, Montana, daughter Ruth A. (Wilmott) Maur of Long Beach, California, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leota, Parents Laymont and Bessa Wilmott, sons Lonnie, Richard, daughters Louis (Wilmott) Wilcox, Patti (Wilmott) Harris and one Grandson Darrel Wilmott.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Fairview Senior Center.
