Memorial service for Rick Allen Parkins, 57, of Fairview, formerly of Edmond, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene, southwest of Fairview, with Terry Schaklaar officiating. Inurnment will be at 9 a.m. in the Roscoe Cemetery. Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Rick graduated from Fairview High School Valedictorian in 1974. After graduation he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with honors. Rick was on the Honor Roll every year he attended OSU. While attending school at OSU, he was involved with the initial planning stages of the Glass Mountain State Park Northwest of Fairview. He traveled to London England often where he loved to spend time, and loved anything to do with plants, gardening, and flowers.
Rick was employed by the city of Edmond for 25 years. He served as a park planer, and was a Land Scape Architect. He designed many of the parks, sports fields, and recreation areas. He was a leader in the establishment of all Edmond parks and trail master plans.
In 2005 Rick returned to Fairview and semi-retirement but still kept busy. He worked as a dispatcher for the Major County Sherriff’s office for several years.
Rick is survived by his sisters Linda Cravens and husband Clarence , Charlotte Kooken and husband Lafe, both of Fairview, OK and brother Charles Parkins and wife Loretta also of Fairview, OK as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodians of the funds.
